Professional pastoral supervision offers a regular space to examine your ministry practice with an external supervisor. You bring experiences from your work. Together we explore your responses, assumptions, relationships and responsibilities, with attention to ethical practice, personal wellbeing and those entrusted to your care.
Sessions are grounded in an agreed supervision relationship, with clear purposes, boundaries and limits to confidentiality. Supportive enquiry and thoughtful challenge help you develop greater self-awareness, exercise sound judgement and sustain your ministry over time.
I use the Transforming Experience Framework (TEF) to explore your experience in role. It brings your own responses, the organisation, the wider context and your values into the conversation. These are some of the questions we can explore together.
What are you noticing in your thoughts, feelings and responses? How do your experience and assumptions shape the way you take up your ministry responsibilities?
How do authority, expectations, boundaries and patterns of relationship within your church or organisation influence your practice?
What community, cultural and institutional realities need attention as you consider the situation and your responsibilities within it?
How do your understanding of God, theological convictions and sense of calling inform what you notice and how you respond?
At the outset, we agree the focus of supervision, session arrangements, confidentiality and its limits, and how we will review the work. We also discuss independence, any conflicts of interest, and any attendance records your church or appointing body requires.
Supervision attends to professional boundaries, the use of power, safe ministry, challenging relationships and the impact of ministry on you and others. It is distinct from line management, performance appraisal, counselling and strategic consulting. Where a different service is needed, we discuss a separate arrangement or referral.
Chris is an AAOS Associate Member. Baptist and Anglican recognition applications are in progress. Before relying on supervision for a specific requirement, we confirm acceptance and session arrangements with your denomination or employer.
